In July 2011 I joined a women's Canada World Youth 6 month volunteer team composed of 18 young women; 9 Canadian's and 9 South African's. Together we lived in South Africa's second largest township whereas each Canadian was paired with a South Africa and lived with a host family. In the community we participated in community outreach on issues related to gender equality, HIV/AIDS, domestic violence and substance abuse. Each day there were challenges and the journey was never easy, but it was worth every breath.
This documentary seeks to capture the experience of the volunteers while shedding light to break the stereotypes of life in a developing country. Highlights include interviews, scenic views of Table Mountain, a lecture by Ela Gandhi (granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi) and more!
