Northeast Historic Film:
A fall afternoon, 1927. The Framingham Lion Tamers play the Providence Steam Roller, early franchises of the National Football League. Henry Sturgis Dennison filmed life in Framingham, MA and a lot of sports. Henry Dunker, Dennison’s son-in-law, played fullback for Framingham and is seen carrying the ball in many plays. A family business begun in 1844 to make shipping boxes Brunswick, Maine, Dennison grew to dominate the shipping label, and later the crepe paper, markets. A believer in Frederick W. Taylor’s scientific management theories, Dennison initiated reforms in his factories including reduced working hours, health services, an unemployment fund and nonmanagerial profit sharing.
