The Jones Creek Trails, which sit alongside the 1000 Islands Parkway in Ontario is a part of the St. Lawrence Islands National Park. The park was established in 1904, thanks to the lobbying of the locals to the government to protect some of the natural land for public use. In the late 1800's, the 1000 Islands became a much sought-after place for people to buy land for building summer cottages and the area residents felt it important to preserve the natural beauty of the region.
Thanks to the efforts from the locals, we're able to enjoy over 20 square kilometers of protected land on both islands and on the mainland, which still look today as the first settlers in Canada might have seen it. The Jones Creek Trails is one such area.
