This is my Tool Reel 2012.
It's about tools I use in everyday tasks.
tkmk_fraFract: it fractures a mesh according a given curve. You can tell how many fractures, radius of influence on the mesh, change randomly pieces creation to be different.
tkmk_cursorOnCurve: a simple sphere moves on a given curve from start to end, useful to tell Houdini when and where starting to destroy something.
tkmk_badChild: like a bad child throws things on air just for pleasure, this tool adds velocity (magnitudo and direction) to a mesh. With some simple steps, it can also tells to Houdini when activating simulation. It can also change mesh when activated, for example, a manhole can be transformed (loaded from a file or deformed by Houdini's SOP) before to be thrown in the air. You can tell where is the influence and how big, so you could also have flipping objects.
tkmk_glassFract: like tkmk_fraFract, it fractures a mesh, but in a circular manner, typical of a crashing glass. You can tell where the glass will crash (it will be most fractured there) with a position/radius mechanism for influence.
Those tools can be combine as video shows: I use tkmk_fraFract to fracture a street (a WIP project, the mesh is textured both with uv/image and with procedural), then I use tkmk_cursorOnCurve to animate the simulation.
Same thing for the shop windows: tkmk_glassFrac to fracture, then tkmk_badChild to give pieces velocity.
tkmk_badChild throws manholes in different manners in order to show its functions.
