We use a wide variety of mapping techniques to gain insight into an area. Traditional surveys of land use and public amenity, used alongside creative processes such as hand-drawn sound maps of tangible pedestrian experience, help us define a ‘next step’ of critical analysis. Our area survey of Eastern Oxford Street revealed that many street ends, corners and cut-throughs are marked by a pub or cafe. The pubs form important waymarkers in the area: an observation that fed directly into the design strategy for the client.
