Kosovo Mountaineering and Alpinists Federation in cooperation with regional partners is organizing an International Expedition in Southeastern Europe “Discover Balkans Peaks” from 01 to 07 July 2012.
A decade after the end of wars in the region, the doors have opened again on one of the most magical places in the world. Whether hiking westerns Kosovo’s wild mountains or Babino Polje and visiting Plava and Gusia in Montenegro or Theth and Valbona valley in Albania, mountaineers can’t help but marvel at the richness of culture and the vibrant weave of people, history and nature in this crossroads of Southeastern Europe.
“Discovering Balkans Peaks” is a great opportunity for mountaineers from all over the world to visit the triangle of Kosovo, Montenegro and Albania and exercise the freedom of access to mountains, promote the mutual tolerance and reach the highest point of the entire Dinaric Alps “Maja Jezercë”.
In the far western corner of Kosovo, beyond the town of Peja, a narrow road enters one of the most spectacular areas in Balkans. Welcome to the Rugova Gorge, where granite walls vault 609 meters/ 2,000 feet above the Drini River and where your journey begins.
