This is a chapter from a documentary on the East Meets West Foundation that focuses on EMW's Dental Program.

The East Meets West Foundation’s Dental Program offers a full range of free, modern dental services to disadvantaged Vietnamese children who otherwise have no access to dental treatment.

Children in developing countries suffer greatly from lack of access to dental care. The pain that results from tooth decay can create difficulties in school performance and overall development. Left untreated, dental disease can make children vulnerable to a lifetime of systemic illness, from malnutrition and diabetes to heart disease.

EMW’s Dental Program directly addresses the need for dental care in Vietnam by offering modern diagnostic, emergency, corrective, preventive and educational dental services—all for free.

The program fulfills its mission through three areas of service: a Dental Clinic in Da Nang; operating a mobile dental trailer that treats children at primary schools in the Da Nang area; and dental outreach trips that are set up at rural primary schools and are staffed by dental volunteers from around the world.

Since 1996, EMW’s Dental Program has treated over 65,000 children and provided over 215,000 modern dental services, an estimated value of over $11.5 million.
