Calvary International, along side Churches In The Lead travel to Campamento La Cumbre, in the mountains of Costa Rica. At 8,000 feet elevation, the base of the camp stands as a center for learning about the love of Christ. Kids from the inner-city are bussed in with aim of getting them out of the city's violence, drugs and alcohol in turn involving them in high risk activities such as, rappelling, bungee cord jumping, tight rope walking, cliff climbing / jumping, etc. This Camp saves lives in many ways. It takes kids out of their destructive daily lives and helps them mentally transform into righteous men and women with a purpose and a fire to live meaningful lives.
Every year the camp requires maintenance and intensive re-construction. Churches in the Lead came from Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts to help provide these needs.
Churches in the Lead also visited a Hospital with terminally ill children given only weeks to live, to celebrate their birthdays and half birthdays. It is a celebration meant merely to bring happiness to their lives and to their siblings and parents. Missionaries came dressed as clowns with toys and games to entertain the kids and provide for a Happy Birthday Party extravaganza.
