May 4th is Memorial Day in the Netherlands. We remember the war victims in the Netherlands or anywhere in the world died since the outbreak of the Second World War and in war and in peace operations after that time.
The National Dachau monument is a memorial to the Dutch victims of the Dachau concentration camp. It is located in the Amsterdam Forest. The monument was designed by artist Niek Kemps. The road is uneven, which symbolizes that the prisoners had to walk on uneven footwear. In the blue stone are the names of 500 concentration camps and outside camps chiseled.
Seventy one years ago the concentration camp Dachau was liberated by the Americans. That happened on April 29, 1945 (UNRAVELING vimeo.com/57665948 © NOK&T/ART 2013)
