Richelle McCauley, teacher at Midway Park Elementary School in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, got a great start to her weekend when Ernie Horn, executive director of Score A Goal in the Classroom, along with HEB ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gene Buinger, walked into her classroom Friday morning.
They presented her with an all-expense paid trip to San Diego, a two-night stay at the San Diego Balboa Omni Resort, and tickets to a San Diego Padres vs. Texas Rangers game. HEB ISD entered into a partnership with Score A Goal in the Classroom at the beginning of the school year to encourage teacher attendance.
Teachers received one chance to win the trip for each six weeks grading period in which they had perfect attendance. There were more than 1,000 teachers with at least one chance to win. McCauley was one of 84 teachers who had perfect attendance for all five of the six-week grading periods counted in the contest. She has not missed one day of school this year. The HEB ISD teacher attendance rate for 2010-2011 was 94.69 percent. That percentage increased to 94.92 during this 2011-2012 school year.
McCauley said she knows how important it is to be with her students on a daily basis, "Every day there is a reason for me to be here."
