Sightless Seeing #5: Rehearsing the Archive was a preparation for the performative tour Sightless Seeing #5: The Tin Collection.
Due to to Covid-19) the performance and live rehearsal during the process exhibition "The spread of a crack is halted by a hole" were cancelled.
In this video-study, a scale model of the IWO-depot in Amsterdam Zuid-Oost - which houses the collection of the former Theatre Institute Nederland (TIN) - is being explored, manipulated and marked with tactile arrows and braille numbers by actor Leroy de Böck. Leroy rehearses the text and demonstrates one of the exercises created to prepare the visitors’ senses for time travel in the depot.
This work is a preamble to the video "Sightless Seeing#5: Remember by Heart", which is currently in production.
The TIN-collection, once housed in a monumental Amsterdam canal-house, was forced to close as a result of the severe cuts on the cultural budgets in the Netherlands in 2011. The collection contains more than half a million artefacts and documents such as masks, costumes, magic tricks, puppets, posters, manuscripts, models and miniature theatres. In 2012, the Allard Pierson Museum took the collection under its wings and is now contemplating how to present parts of it to the public again.
