Residents decide the fate of a number of some local politicians and decide whether they will amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The legislation, called Amendment One would be the first ever amendment to the NC constitution and it would ban legal recognition of civil unions and domestic partnerships. According to the Public Policy Polling survey 55 percent in favor and 39 percent against the amendment. The legislation comes from the NC house with large support from the republican majority. It would strip rights from thousands of NC Families including the children of domestic partnerships.
