A little girl purposefully eats her ice cream when she is suddenly accompanied by the sounds of a transistor radio that can't seem to find a station to settle on. The threatening news clips and thrilling sounds of a roller coaster ride transform the tone from picture perfect day to possible horrors. The tension between an innocent child immersed in her afternoon delight and the harshness of reality forms a tragic narrative that can play through a mother’s mind while admiring her daughter eat her ice cream until the last sprinkle.
The piece also sheds light on the iconic Amusement Park: a man-made fair, that to some, conveys the illusion of happiness and control while the innocent become vulnerable and predators lurk.
This piece is one long improvised take, shot on an iphone ,and the sound collage is completely fabricated except for the mother and daughter's voices.
