the disappearance of manual weaving, and the last weavers who are still working in the Portuguese region of Alentejo.
In a consumer society in which industrial production prevails in a global culture, "Nova Tradição” was born from the need to rediscover our identity which is intimately linked to our cultural roots.

"New tradition" is a concept that counts with the support of the local agents who still perpetuate these activities. The objective is to transmit the know how of such practices as well stimulate the capacity to generate original ideas to generate new concepts. ".transmutation" is a multimedia work that crosses the anthropological spectrum and, through sound and image, creates a innovative artistic narrative. During the original sound composition, created by experimental musician Mestre André, we will be able to identify the key moments of the creative process through the different "cadences" of each instrument of textile production; combined and in interaction with the director's gaze of João Meirinhos upon the region's last weaver and remaining loom spinners. Initial concept and production by Tânia C. Neves
