This Sunday, we will be looking at the conclusion of Luke, but not the conclusion of Luke’s story. Acts is the second volume. As we move from volume one (Luke) to volume two (Acts), we are at a moment of transition. Jesus is passing the baton of his ministry to the disciples - and to us. Jesus states, “stay here until you have been clothed with Power from on high.” We, modern day Americans, are not very good at following such a command. Stay here, wait. These are not things that we do well. As a result, do we miss out on being clothed with power on high? What drives our church? What drives the discipleship of our lives? Are we driven by the desire to be important and impactful? Are we driven by the desire to do good? Good intentions are not the same as being empowered by the Spirit from on high. To be in the continuation of Jesus’ ministry, the baton passing of the Spirit is necessary and vital. Thus, this Sunday, we will seek the Spirit of God together. I look forward to worshiping with you even as we continue to worship online.
