The film captures the moving story of a group of ageing travesty artists who set out one last time to live the glamorous life of the famous. Their hair has grown a little thinner, their bellies a little bigger and their butts a little slacker - time has left its physical traces. But when the spotlights turn on all of that is forgotten and the glittery stage life of make-up, silk stockings and feather boas begins.
Our feature documentary joins the artists on their stage tour around Europe and Southeast Asia. It's the last chance to experience the transformation from an ordinary human being into a stage diva that each of the travesty artists undergo before each show, and a unique opportunity to find out more about their extraordinary personal lives. Each of them has their own astonishing story to tell, a story that was silenced for most of their lives by social pressure. "Gardenia" changed everything, giving them the platform to express their feelings and experiences in front of an international audience. It all started with the first show in June 2010, it will come to an end in June 2012 when they will be united on stage for the last time. We follow the stage artists on every step of their last months and days together as a tightly knitted group - and on their first steps in their new life "after Gardenia".
