On November 5, 2008, a three wheeled cargo bicycle with a padded seat and a cylinder of compressed pure oxygen was pedaled into the street by Qipu Market. Passersby were invited to sit down and breathe. This mobile oxygen unit was an adaptation of "Fresh Air Cart," a 1972 event performed on the streets of Lower Manhattan by sculptor Gordon Matta-Clark and video artist Juan Downey. In iterating this earlier project, “Breathe” inquires into the changing context between 1972 in New York City and 2008 in Shanghai.
