It's been along time since I uploaded anything, didn't realize it's almost been a year!
I've been busy with work and I've got some "hush-hush" projects that I unfortunately can't upload yet.
But last week I saw that Nick at greyscalegorilla.com posted a new 5SEC Project; Nothing But Cubes, it sounded fun! so I thought; let's try it out.
For this piece I thought to myself; what if I tried to emulate a "stopmotion"-feel to the animation? how would I achieve that?
So I started treating the camera and the cubes in C4D as if I was shooting frame by frame on my table with my DSLR with no real sense of how the final result would look like.
I mostly stuck to that idea, even though I adjusted the animation slightly when it was done, but mostly leaving it as it was to get that jittery old stop-motion feel.
I used sub-polygon displacement for the textures and had a animated movement to them so they never had the same texture per frame, to give that sense that someone readjusted the playdoh cube(s) before every shot.
The 2D-effects were animated frame by frame in Photoshop, exported as .png's and then imported in After Effects where I did all the compositing and grading.
I downloaded the sound effects from freesound.org
