February 2020 I traveled to Sierra Leone with digitized film fragments and photographs produced there by Paul Julien in 1934. Most connections that can now be established, the information that shall be added, I left it out of this film and will figure out how to properly share it. Despite of this decision, or maybe thanks to it, some things suddenly align and make sense in what I guess is something like a time based collage.
For a proper introduction and context of the imagined audience for the film beyond Paul Julien himself see this blog post: wp.nyu.edu/orphanfilm/2020/05/21/julien/
Significant others without whom this would not have been possible in order of appearance in my life: Nico de Klerk, Dan Streible, James Vincent, Olivette Barnette and her colleagues ant the National Museum of Sierra Leone, Prof. Arthur Abraham, Charlie Haffner, Joseph Fefegula, Chief Ruth T. Songa IV and the people in Gbo chiefdon, Chief Kargobai III and the people of Selenga chiefdom.
