In almost 25 years of BASE jumping, Jeb Corliss has done some of the gnarliest things that this sport has ever seen. If you entered the sport of BASE in the past 10 years or so, you might not know this. And no one cares less about impressing you than Jeb, so it falls to us to explain: In the early 2000s, before social media, before youtube, back when we recorded our jumps on actual videotape, Jeb was nailing handstand exits to double gainers from low and positive slider down cliffs. When many of today’s jumpers were in elementary school, he was throwing twisting quads from sub-terminal cliffs and was a wingsuit BASE pioneer. By the time facebook was invented, Jeb already had over 1000 BASE jumps on multiple continents and was one of the most prolific jumpers in history. He turned his exploits into an actual BASE career, survived horrific accidents, and is still going strong.
Putting a legendary BASE career aside, what is most impressive about Jeb is that he is one of the realest, most honest jumpers we have known. He gives zero fucks about what anyone thinks, especially other jumpers, but at the same time he is nice to everyone and is a genuinely kind person. His motivation to jump is, and always has been, pure. He has faced the inevitability of his own death honestly and sincerely, and he jumps only for himself. That he has turned it into a job with made-for-TV stunts is simply a manifestation of his drive to BASE jump more.
After years of jumping SQRL wingsuits, Jeb has chosen to switch to SQAD BASE gear as well. In his words: “I’ve been skydiving since 1994 and BASE jumping since 1997. When it comes to gear, I can jump whatever I like. I’ve been jumping Squirrel wingsuits for many years now and have been amazed at their customer service, quality of craftsmanship, and research & development. I decided it was time to demo their BASE gear and over the last 6 months I have really put it through its paces. I was impressed with the quality they’ve been able to achieve. I‘m getting back into jumping in a serious way and now have some of the most serious gear available to help make that happen. Thank you Squirrel, I’m excited for the upcoming season and can’t wait for the world to open up again so I can put this gear to good use.”
