Sharkwater Extinction is the latest film in the Sharkwater series — directed, written and produced by Rob Stewart: award-winning filmmaker, author, biologist and shark activist. Rob’s films have been seen by more than 135 million people.
In his latest film, Sharkwater Extinction (2018), Rob continues his heroic fight to save our oceans, battling corrupt governments, the billion-dollar pirate fishing trade and illegal shark fin industry. Shot in vivid 6K, Stewart travels across continents in his ongoing mission to protect sharks. Rob found up to 150 million sharks are still killed each year and are now turning up in products for human consumption, including cosmetics, pet food, fish and livestock feed. Winner of more than 50 international awards, Sharkwater Extinction has a 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Rob’s first film, Sharkwater (2006), brought the devastating issue of shark finning to the world stage, changed public policy, government laws and created hundreds of organizations dedicated to saving sharks. A research group credits Rob with saving a third of the world’s sharks.
Revolution (2012), Rob’s second film, was the first feature film to alert the world to the catastrophic effects of ocean acidification and its potential to kill the reefs, and oceans themselves, which give us 60% of the air we breathe, absorb 30% of our carbon, and our excess heat.
In January 2017, while shooting Sharkwater Extinction, Stewart was tragically killed in a dive accident off the Florida Keys. His final film, Sharkwater Extinction, was completed by his family, friends and production team.
