I recorded this video for my literacy PACT. In this lesson students were asked what they would paint if they had a magic paintbrush like the one in the story we had just finished reading for the first time. In the story a magic paintbrush would allow any object painted to come to life. Students are asked to use their imagination to consider what they would like to magically come to life. This lesson segment shows the small group work where students were asked to complete the sentence frame "If I had a magic paintbrush I would..." Students were then asked to draw a picture that relates to their sentence. I asked students to complete the sentence frame by inventively spelling the words needed to complete the sentence. This was the first time students were asked to inventively spell and as seen on the video, this was difficult for some students. After waiting a few minutes to allow all students the opportunity to try to inventively spell, I offer some students support by providing a dictated sentence for the student to copy.
