The Northwest Angle is a relic left over from an old treaty and a misguided map. It sits on top of Minnesota and is further north than any other point in the contiguous United States. The southernmost point, Key West, is 4,000 miles of lakes, rivers, and ocean away. I plan on kayaking every foot of it.
Please vote for this trip in Outside Magazine's Adventure Grant competition. Voting decides the winner and anyone on Facebook can vote once PER DAY from June 4th to June 17. Here is the link: facebook.com/outsidemagazine/app_363315843722583.
Basically, click that link, then click on my adventure “Paddling the Heart of America” or my name “Daniel Alvarez.” You’ll have to like “Outside Magazine” and accept their Facebook App to vote. The vote button is gold and underneath my video. Once you’ve voted, the vote button should change to silver and tell you to come back and vote again tomorrow.
Please vote (each and every day!) to help support this trip. Stripped of any altruistic thoughts, this is a fantastic adventure that I feel privileged to attempt, but it is also my way of inspiring people to seek adventure all around them (millions of people cross my route every day on their way to work) as well as conserve the wild outdoor places that make trips like this possible (especially the rivers, lakes, and oceans near some of our biggest cities).
Beyond voting, I hope you follow the trip at predictablylost.com. I want to take you along the journey with me as it unfolds. I’m excited to have you along and I hope you enjoy the trip as much as I do, minus the blisters, of course.
So please vote early and often, then email your friends, post it on your Facebook pages, tweet about it on Twitter, talk about it over drinks at the bar, call ex-girlfriends and boyfriends, and do anything else you can think of to spread the word. Win or lose, I cannot express much I appreciate your support.
