One of the most powerful words in the English language is only 3 letters long. When used, this word has the potential to stir great emotions. This one 3 letter word denotes change and can change someone’s life, either for the better or for the worse. What is this powerful word? “B-U-T, but”. This small word can cause relief or grief. It is used to change an event from good to bad or bad to good, this all depends on the words it is used with. For example, one person may hear the doctor say, “We did all we could, BUT it wasn’t enough.” Yet another person may hear the doctor say, “It looked as if he wasn’t going to make it, BUT he came through fine.” Yes, the word but may change someone’s life, expectations, and dreams.
This powerful little word “but” is used many times in many ways in the Bible. I want to take a look at this word and see what effect it has on the Christian life. Specifically I want us to see the POWER that is packed in the little phrase… BUT God.
We may feel depressed, deserted, defeated, discouraged, feeble and frail, forsaken, forgotten, helpless, hopeless, in capable, outnumbered, or overwhelmed… BUT God is there to give us hope, help, encouragement, strength, courage, victory, and to make us MORE than conquerors.
