This year’s Memorial Day Commemoration in Washington was quite different than past years, as the public was sadly unable to attend due to the pandemic. First Selectman Jim Brinton would like to share this video of the virtual Memorial Day Ceremony. This year's Major Stephen Reich Award for Exceptional Citizenship was given to all of the town’s first responders, to whom we all owe a debt of gratitude.
“On this day we pause as a nation to honor the men and the women who gave their lives in service for our country. These honored dead, men and women of diverse backgrounds, race and faiths came together to work as one, a united force to protect and defend our liberties and freedom in times of peril. Though their names may fade with the passing of generations, may we never forget what they’ve done. Help us to be worthy of their sacrifice, oh God help us to be worthy.”
