"Carver's Message in Blue" is a collaborative performance between Ariel René Jackson and Michael J. Love. Their improvisational choreography transforms a stenciled US flag in soil–a gesture that wrestles with national identity and historical legacy as it pertains to George Washington Carver reciting his favorite poem "Equipment". The poem echoes in the empty pool that Jackson and Love are performing in–echoing sentiments of upward mobility and perseverence. This performance was filmed as part of the Works In Progress program at the George Washington Carver Museum February 8th, 2020.
