Jessie Kennedy (iidi.napier.ac.uk/c/people/peopleid/41) presents a case study in which user-centered visual design was used to create a tool for visualizing farm animal pedigrees. The tool uses unconventional representations and requires training to use, but greatly accelerates required analysis tasks. She concludes with an overview of key visualization principles. This talk was presented at VIZBI 2012, an international conference series on visualizing biological data (vizbi.org).
