A short movie about why and how it was named "Patricia's Green in Hayes Valley". The double-deck Central Freeway in San Francisco's Hayes Valley neighborhood was damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. It was taken down after three ballot initiatives and replaced with the tree-lined Octavia Boulevard and Hayes Green which opened September 9, 2005. Hayes Green was re-named "Patricia's Green in Hayes Valley" on August 17, 2006, in memory of Patricia Walkup who co-chaired the committee to replace the damaged freeway with the Boulevard and Green. Patricia was also founder and first president of the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association. She passed away on June 6, 2006, in San Francisco. The Hayes Valley neighborhood continues to flourish.
