California Forever is two-part PBS television special that tells the story of California’s magnificent state parks from Yosemite in 1864 to the present day. Together, the programs remind viewers of the importance of California’s State Parks as well as their priceless legacy.
Production required 65 days of shooting in 45 state parks spread out over 18 months.
California Forever was presented to PBS for national broadcast by KQED, San Francisco. The programs were picked up by 367 independent PBS affiliate channels in 44 states reaching 80% of all television households in the United States. Together, the programs booked more than 2,300 individual air dates, with more than 80% outside of California. Within California, every PBS affiliate broadcast both episodes in prime time.
