As we grow older we’ll want services that help us live our lives the way we want to. Through the Independence Matters programme designcouncil.org.uk/independencematters, the Technology Strategy Board and Design Council have supported seven services that do just that. They promote independence, enjoyment and autonomy in later life. They’re collaborative and aspirational. But their place in the current ‘age’ ecosystem is unclear. Are these pure consumer propositions? Or do they represent new models of service provision for older adults? How can we think differently about the roles that the public, private and third sectors should - or could - play in providing services for older adults? We held a panel debate to explore these issues.
