Marc Roussel – Bio
Marc Roussel is a Toronto-based filmmaker trained at Humber College and The New York Film Academy. He supports his filmmaking by working in the editorial departments on various TV series', TV movies and feature films such as Where the Truth Lies, Adoration, Chloe, Barney’s Version, Breakaway, The Firm, Devil's Knot and Queen of the Night.
In 2007, he formed Red Sneakers Media with Ron Basch, and together, have been making short films and web ads that have garnered them multiple awards from around the world.
He has written and directed the short films Dear Barry, Dead Clown, Sweet Tooth (which won third prize at the 24hr Toronto Film Challenge in 2006), Alchemy (a Mobifest, Wildsound Feedback Film Festival and Renderyard 1-Minute Film Festival winner), Rewind My Love and The Elusive Man (Best Director at Action on Film, 2011).
His new short film, The Sweetest Hippopotamus, a Bravo!FACT co-production, is scheduled to air on Bravo in 2012 and is making it’s festival rounds, having recently picked up the Platinum Remi Award for Best Dramatic Short at the Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival.
Remote, produced in 2008, is their most successful short film, having screened at more than 45 film festivals worldwide over a three year run, picked up 11 awards and was nominated for a Director's Guild of Canada award for Best Short Film. The short film will become a feature film, produced in partnership with Berkshire Axis Media, in the fall of 2012.
“Roussel was smart enough to focus on the writing. Remote is tight. It has as much suspense, scares and twists as a feature length film so; in short, I'd say it's the whole package.” Quiet Earth
“Remote is a really intense and original short. I'd love to see this story get the feature length treatment.” Planet of Terror
“Short films generally need a good hook, and Remote has one...Director Marc Roussel exhibits… style in the execution of Remote and manages to keep us guessing as to what is going on.” Rue Morgue Magazine
“Roussel is a very gifted writer and director, the performances here are elevated by his skill at his craft, and at 20 minutes; “Remote” wraps itself up in perhaps the neatest, most satisfying bow any fan of the short genre film could ever hope for.”
