A video about unveiling power. The way I chose to do this was by eroticising the hieratic. worked with the Venezuelan artist Wladimir Zabaleta. He is mostly known for his paintings of “Las Meninas” (Spanish for The Maids of Honour). I chose to use the meninas to connotate hieraticism, and also as a symbol of the Spanish Empire. These girls used really tight dresses that squeeze the erotic, making them apparently more powerful. The Spanish Empire ruled Venezuela for a long time, and that is what makes Venezuela an occidentalisation of Spain. The meninas don’t sweat, cry, smile, nor they go to the bathroom; the meninas are “perfect”. Consequently, with this video I chose to reveal how the Spanish Empire and of all the hieraticism that once existed looks like after all; to reveal how all that power once imposed ended up in misery.
