This was filmed at 500 frames per second with a Photo-Sonics 16mm High Speed Camera. We lugged this camera to the top of Vernal Falls in Yosemite Valley, and what you see here is a close up view of the raging cascade in the Silver Apron. This is a seamless loop with a dissolve in the middle. It is exactly 900 frames (1 minute). At 500 frames a second, the camera literally screams, but this was drowned out by the sound of the raging water. Nowadays, HD High Speed is fairly commonplace, but back in 1997, your options were more limited.
