In celebration of the Lunar New Year, STEPS collaborated with lead artist PUFF Paddy, and two emerging artistic facilitators from OCAD University to facilitate and develop a community engaged public art installation for the Chinatown BIA (Business Improvement Association). Through four intergenerational community art workshops to engage, over 100 lanterns were created!
Yue Moon was designed to unite the Chinatown community together while exploring a contemporary approach to the traditional art of lantern making. Over three weeks STEPS engaged over 100 participants ranging in age from 2 to 80+ in four community workshops. Each lantern created during the workshops collectively formed the final public art installation unveiled as part of the Chinatown BIA Lunar New Year celebrations at Dragon City Mall. The results of this project created a space for community members and artists to connect, contribute, and express themselves in their community through a unique public artwork and collaborative experience.
