I am a student at Charles Darwin University. I had to do a project for one of my multimedia subjects. And the option to participate in ABC Open's 110% came up.
I chose to base the story on my friend Tiah, whom I have known for more than 10 years, because I knew she would be the perfect subject. And, she is indeed 110% crazy about Capoeira.
Capoeira originates from Brazil and is not so widely known of in Australia, but it's a big part of Tiah's life. As we worked on this project, it allowed me to see and hear her talk about her passion and enthusiasm for this unusual activity.
Before making this piece, I had never made a film before. I found that creating this film has being a great opportunity to understand the technical sides of filmmaking processes, and to get in touch with new technologies. I also realized how difficult it is to edit, and the amount of patience one needs to apply!
If I had another shot at making a film such as this, what I would do differently is to organize myself better for the shooting, and make sure I'm 100% sure on how to use the equipment. Getting into the edit suite and looking at my shots, made me wish I had done a better job, taken more time.
