My studio practice is an investigation that explores the space that lies between splendor and destructive behavior. My video and print work combines disturbing or violent acts with rich visuals taken from ritualistic worship and symbols of high and low culture. The goal of this practice is not to shock, but to seduce and play with perception. The work has a seductive retinal nature, but puts the viewer into an uncomfortable position when they realize its content. The intent behind the push and pull of this experience is to raise questions of mortal desire, and reveal people’s tendencies to be easily manipulated by aesthetics.
