I was the Lead Compositor on this commercial at award winning Production studio: Partizan.
Working closely with director Chris Cains and CG Team (Duncan Birch and Gavin Lester) to integrate CG goo into the phantom high speed shot footage using Shake.
The first thing I did was paint in chocolate inside the holes which were used to inject goo on set. Then I had to remove some on set rigging and then add CG chocolate on the insde of the resin base eggs models.
I then added multi CG passes of fluid goo rendered from Softimage XSI.
It was particularly important to make sure the goo looked realistic and like actual creme egg goo, so there was reference shot on set for me to match too and using CG passes such as Normal passe, Occlusion pass etc I was able to create the right look for the different layers of goo and added defocus information matching the camera lens.
Because this was all super slow motion, all the tracking and paint work had to be super tight and couldn't cheat with motion blur and gain like you could on fast moving sequences.
I also added in reflections of the goo on the metal sections of the mouth trap and animated splats and debris on the lens using warping.
I also used Warping to extend the fluid simulation more dramatically (which couldn't be solved in the cg sim).
