Most soccer players and fans will tell you that you have to be 'different' to be a goalkeeper, that you need something special, a unique quality. Possibly as a result, many goalkeepers are perceived as crazy. In Gloves we follow lower league goalkeeper Peter Glover in the twilight of his career, as the goalkeeper faces the inevitable battle against both younger rivals, and his own aging limbs. Is he crazy? Just misunderstood? Perhaps a bit of both?
'Gloves' won a BBC Big Screen short film award in 2006, with the prize judged and awarded by Mark Kermode. This was my first short film. Whilst the production values leave a little to be desired, Mark said it was funny. I'll take that.
