Studies of Inertia
created by Elke Luyten and Kira Alker
live performance at the Irondale Center as part of FLICfest 2012
Studies of Inertia investigates the fundamental difficulties and paradoxes of the act of performing. We focus on the simple process of executing tasks, striving to overcome the tendency to remain unchanged.
Studies of Inertia was created, in part, during a residency at Hooyong Performing Art Centre in South Korea, Raketenstation Hombroich in Germany, Dance New Amsterdam and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in New York. Previous working drafts of this piece have been presented at Movement Research at the Judson Church, Body Blend series at Dixon Place, RAW Directions at Dance New Amsterdam, FLICfest 2012. The final piece premiered at Dance New Amsterdam in November 2012.
