This is the end section of the music theatre work,'DREAMING TRANSPORTATION: Voice Portraits of the First Women of White Settlement at Port Jackson', for 5 amplified singers, 7 musicians and triple seen projections. This work is based upon the poetic history ‘Botany Bay Document’ by Jordie Albiston, and reveals the little documented European female experience of colonisation in Australia. The performers in this second production are Deborah Conway, Amie McKenna, Christine Douglas, Susan Prior and Jeannie Van de Velde.
The stories in the songs are real and imagined histories.
The first production was commissioned by the Sydney Festival of the Arts 2003, assisted by the Australia Council for the Arts, Playworks, Parramatta City Council, the Myer Foundation and the New South Wales Ministry for the Arts. Music engineered by Shane Fahey, directed by Chris Ryan, production design by Katerina Stratos, lighting design by Sydney Bouhaniche, costume design by Jennifer Irwin with Anna Messariti as producer. Images for triple screen projection directed by Andrée Greenwell with cinematography by Toby Oliver. Starring Deborah Conway, Justine Clarke, Christine Douglas, Miriam Allan and Amie Mc Kenna. WIth Hope Csutoris-violin, James Nightingale-cl/sax, Jane Williams-cello, Denise Papaluca-piano, Mardi Chillingworth-bass, David Hewitt-percussion and Kim-Poole-guitar/mandolin/irish bouzouki/hurdy-gurdy, piano accordion. A Green Room Music production, presented by Sydney Festival in association with Music Theatre Sydney. 83 mins.
The second production was at The Playhouse, Sydney Opera House, 2004, produced by Performing Lines. Composed and music directed by Andrée Greenwell, images directed by Andrée Greenwell. The production is directed by Marion Potts with production and costume design by Fiona Crombie, lighting design by Bernie Tan. Starring Deborah Conway, Susan Prior, Christine Douglas, Jeannie Van de Velde and Amie Mc Kenna. The line-up of musicians is the same as the first production.
