This film was Inspired by Fuller’s “jitterbug” , Stuart’s first hand animation of polyhedral and mosaic transformations, Joseph Clinton’s first computer model of the transformation and discovery of the chiral polyhedral transformation and the first computer animation of the polyhedron transformations going through a complete 360 degree rotation cycle. The animation illustrates one class of the chiral polyhedra transformation. Starting with the tetrahedron a smooth transformation through all five regular polyhedra and two semi-regular polyhedra are illustrated. The transformation is accomplished by a screw axis operation of rotation and translation of chiral polygons. The chiral polygons have a vertex connection to adjacent chiral pairs. The inner polygon rotation is opposite to the outer polygon rotation. The axis of translation passes through the common center of rotation of the chiral face pairs and the center of the polyhedron.
