I wrote, produced, shot and edited this video for the Mauna Lani bay Hotel and Bungalows on the Big Island of Hawai‘i. I worked with composer Dick Hieronymus who crafted the soundtrack using traditional melodies that I selected, as well as new compositions of his own. This was originally filmed in 16mm in 1983, then revised and reshot in 1992, using the original music and some newer compositions. We worked with local musicians Danny Akaka, Charlie Recaido, and the incomparable Lim Family, and Dick conducted the additional orchestra members in sessions in Woodinville, Washington. The opening and closing theme melody, Akahi Hoi, was actually written by King David Kalākaua!
