This route started in Tromso, the biggest northern city of Norway, gateway to Arctic exploration and home base of an important university. Next stop is Alta, reachable through the marvelous coastal route. From there the usual is to visit the Nordkapp, northrenmost point of Europe (which in fact is not, the highest point is Gamvik) that attracts most of the travellers, tourist buses and explorers. This region is called Finnmark, spread between Norway, Sweden and Finland. In the Eastern part, you discover Karasjok, Norwegian capital of the Sami people with a past of several conflicts, challenges and social victories, specially for indegenous rights. Nowadays, there are growing opportunities for the population to develop alternative economical income, such as reindeer herding and sustainable tourism. On the other side of the border there is Inari, the Finish capital of the Sami, with its own parliament. Nature in Lapland has a peaceful scenery, wilderness activities and most of all the Northern Lights in the winter and Midnight Sun in the Summer.
