From a base in Canada, Clearwater makes compelling, intelligent and award-winning broadcast and feature documentaries for audiences around the world.
With four Gemini Award nominations and two Gemini Awards in 2011, its founders Niobe Thompson and Tom Radford continue a four-decade long tradition of uncompromising storytelling with visual flair. Recent projects have explored human evolution and distance running (The Perfect Runner, CBC/ARTE 2012), the environmental crisis in Canada’s tar sands (Tipping Point: The End of Oil, CBC/NHK/NRK/Al Jazeera 2011), the earliest peopling of the Americas during the Ice Age (Code Breakers, CBC 2011) and the origins of the modern Inuit (Inuit Odyssey, CBC 2009). Clearwater Documentary has produced for broadcasters including CBC, PBS, BBC, ARTE, NHK, NRK, DR, National Geographic and the History Channel. We have coproduced with partner companies in Norway, Wales, Japan and the United States and recently completed a collaboration with the BBC’s Natural History Unit on the 2011/2012 megaseries Frozen Planet.
Clearwater is a Realscreen Global 100 company, one of the world’s 100 most influential documentary production companies.
