This is the project I gratuated the Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam with in 2009 together with Jeroen Horsman, Mark Verkerk and Don van Straalen. We created the concept and the beginning of an RPG. The boys created a playable level, while I designed characters and made an intro and outro animation to our demo.
The intro of "Realm of Synai" shows bits of what would be to come should our game be completed. We used it as a vision our main character Kay is having. Synai, the fictional world we came up with, is ruled by eight Elements, which are kept safe inside a barrier. Kay discovers that someone is trying to obtain that power, and tries to prevent the person from doing so. Alas, the bad guy breaks the seal the Elements were in, which causes them to scatter across Synai. Kay gets hit by the Water Element, and soon discovers that he has obtained the power to control water.
The rest of the animation is about Kay going on a journey to get back the missing Elements, and ends with a facedown between him and the bad guy. Basically, the game functions as a trailer that you would normally see for RPG games. Because we only made the beginning of "Realm of Synai", some could say that the rest of the animation shows signs of the future as well, which means Kay will eventually be able to go to the places he's visiting, and needs to face off the bad guy.
