DESCRIPTION: In this performance and installation piece, I poured red wine into a bowl below a black and white print of my father and I. I then began dipping pre-printed pieces of white cardstock into the wine and clipping them up with the clothespins. When submerged in red wine, the cardstock revealed messages. The phrases (“I miss talking to you honey,” “Papa,” “He kept dropping the knife, trying to make dinner,” “You are so lucky to have such a great dad,” and more) reflect my experience growing up with an alcoholic parent. During the piece, people from the audience began helping me dip and hang the papers, allowing them to come into my experience and contribute to the piece.
