Tree Madonna II, 20.5 h x 20 w x 19 d in / 52 x 51 x 48 cm, 2019.
One day a large tree fell on Hay Creek Ranch (54,000 acres in Central Oregon). It was chain-sawed into sections that were left in place to decay. I observed and admired the remains until months later I decided to rescue a piece of the bark. I cleaned it, painted and sprayed on layer upon layer of shellac. Then I attached it to a sawed-off section of the tree trunk. I finished the sculpture with my signature female form and wildflowers of scrap metal that I plasma-cut and welded.
