The Hydrogen Line is a 21 cm wavelength produced by the changing energy states of neutral hydrogen atoms. The electromagnetic radiation this energy change produces is at approximately 1,420 MHz. In 1959 researchers determined that this would be an ideal frequency for contacting extraterrestrial intelligence; hydrogen is the most common element in the universe. In 1977, a signal at this frequency was received by a radio telescope in Ohio coming from somewhere in the constellation Sagittarius. Researchers never concluded the source, and the signal has never been heard again. It is nicknamed the Wow Signal. The 1,420 Mhz frequency is protected by NASA and SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence); they are listening.
A call and response with the project Everyone Needs to Chill the Fuck Out, this beach umbrella and pineapple can forms a fully functioning radio telescope that is connected to a low noise amplifier that magnifies frequencies between 1200 and 1500 MHz. The signal is then routed into a software defined radio program for analysis.
