"Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson" is the result of an international collaboration for the "2Weeks 2Make It 2009" Music Video Competition, based in Sheffield, UK. It was part of 2009's Sensoria Festival of Film and Music (sensoria.org.uk).
The aim of "2Weeks 2Make It" is to provide a platform for filmmakers and bands to work together to their mutual benefit. The timeframe of "2Weeks 2Make It" is just 14 days to come up with a concept, arrange the shoot and edit and deliver the finished film. A big thank you to Dr Rob Speranza (Producer and Head of Operations of the South Yorkshire Filmmakers' Network) who supported and facilitated this 2009 UK/New Zealand collaboration.
"Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson" is a music video with a specific aesthetic and narrative for displaying on small screens, mainly aimed at the iPHONE. This experimental and new visual approach explores a new narrative structure while dealing with screen limitations and new parameters. "Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson" aims to engage with its audience with simplicity and humour.
The "Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson" team was composed of:
- Thomas Carpenter (Carpo) [composer & musician], based in Sheffield, UK
- Patricia Burgetsmaier [director], based in Auckland, NZ
- Laurent Antonczak [director], based in Auckland, NZ
- Rie Shibata [director of photography], based in Auckland, NZ
- Eloise Coveny [editor & assistant photography], based in Auckland, NZ
- Theo Veltman [animation advisor], based in Auckland, NZ
Lastly, "Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson" didn't win but it did come in as one of the highest, with the 4th highest score out of the 18 videos.
