At JUC we often say that we want to transform the world. It is a goalworth pursuing, with alert minds and open hearts. What opposition are we likely to encounter? What tactics will we employ? And before we start rearranging the world, do we need to transform ourselves? Based on his concerns for the natural world, and some of his perceptions as an historian, Mike probes beneath such familiar concerns as climate change, resource depletion, and declining biodiversity to focus on the values that must accompany transformation—the same values that enable solutions to all the challenges facing us in the 21st century—concluding by suggesting a way forward for JUC.
